Artbox Avenue 2024 at Singapore Expo
It’s no secret that Singaporeans love weekend market-inspired festivals such as Chatuchak and Artbox. The latter is an event started in Bangkok and expanded with its first Singapore edition in 2017, proving to be a hit amogst locals here.
The street market is set to make a comeback with Artbox Avenue taking place across 2 weekends in 2024, 26th-28th January and 2nd-4th February. Envisioned to be 50% bigger than Artbox 2023, the next edition will feature 2 new spaces, Central Avenue and the Open Plaza. If you’re intrigued, here’s what you can expect from Artbox Avenue 2024.

A new addition this year is Central Avenue, which will feature stacked shipping containers with whimsical features such as supersized traffic lights, graffiti, and colourful neon signs. And if you’re lucky, you might catch roving live performances.
Even the interiors of the containers have been overhauled. Instead of seeing a dark, dank space, visitors will be pleasantly greeted by their lively interior, which encourages them to freely express themselves for the ‘Gram.
Indulge in retail therapy & play retro arcade games

When you’re done taking shots, head over to the retail zone for some food or shopping. Here, you’ll find more than 200 F&B and retail stores. While details of the F&B vendors are still up in the air, last year’s Artbox featured names such as Tanamera and Smooze.

Those wanting to quell their rumbling bellies can also choose from a variety of cuisines such as Western, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese and Thai.

Meanwhile, shopaholics will be glad to know that there are 140 retail outlets to fulfil your urge to splurge – from apparel to plants and handmade knick-knacks by independent makers.

Alternatively, you can also relieve fond childhood memories with the wide range of retro arcade games available. This year, the retail zone will feature machines by TAP (The Arcade People). Besides wowing bae with your impressive skills, you can also stand a chance to win attractive prizes at the daily challenge.
Decorate your own sneakers & smash cockroaches
Speaking of challenges, a variety of local ones are also available at the Open Plaza. Those wanting to relive more carefree childhood days can join the National Water Bottle Tornado Challenge, while pest haters among us can fearlessly smack roaches at the National Piak Cockroach Championship. The winners for each event get to walk away with $888 in cold, hard cash.

Balancing Beam of Pain, an obstacle course from last year, is also making a much more painful return. Participants will now have to hop across an acupuncture mat-covered beam in a twisted game of hopscotch.
If challenges are not your kinda thing, there’re also a variety of activities available. Gamers can bond over the wide selection of Nintendo Switch and VR games, while those wanting hands-on activities can also attend the creative workshops, where they get to try their hand at customising items such as tees and sneakers.

Those who are heading down shouldn’t miss events happening each weekend. From 26th-28th January, have a big brain moment by playing Street Chess. Hosted by Aliwal Chess Club, this experience lets visitors put their forward-thinking skills as they play the familiar board game with a twist. If today’s not brain day, refreshing massage sessions are available from 2nd-4th February to unwind and relax.

With its Instagrammable photo displays, yummy grub, games, and activities, it’s little wonder that we flock to Artbox every year. Not to mention, music lovers will also get to watch local and overseas performers take over the stage or have a go at being a songbird at one of Teo Heng’s KTV containers.
