This Exhibition On LKY Is A History Lesson Disguised In 6 IG-Worthy Installations

Now Is Not The Time: Art exhibition on Lee Kuan Yew

There’s nary a Singaporean that doesn’t know of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The man and the legend is brought up every National Day, general election, and then some.

If he were still alive, he’d be 100 years old today. Don’t worry, we aren’t going to ask you to burst into a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday. But here’s one way you can commemorate LKY this September: by visiting Now Is Not The Time, an art exhibition chronicling his life, legacies, and visions for Singapore. Here’s the scoop:

6 IG-worthy zones incorporating AI & art installations

If you’re expecting mementos preserved and placed behind glass panels, well, you’re in for a surprise. This exhibition uses AI, sculptures, music, and film all packaged into one to create IG-worthy photo ops.

But artsy-fartsy installations don’t mean it’s any less educational. You’ll still learn more about LKY’s greatest legacies at each zone. Take Zone 0, for example, that reimagines some of his speeches using AI and ChatGPT. It’s his words but out of the mouths of our country’s diverse population to showcase how his ideas continue to resonate with citizens.

There’s also Zone 2 that’s meant to mimic a time portal of LKY’s life. If reading a Wikipedia page sounds exhausting, then just get the highlights here. It covers his journey from boy to prime minister, including his romantic adventures with the woman who would become his wife – Kwa Geok Choo.

We’re not going to spoil the rest of the exhibit. But know that there are 4 more zones that cover his vision for Singapore and how that would be 100 years from now.

Visit Now Is Not The Time at Pasir Panjang Power Station

You’d think that such an immersive programme would set you back by at least a few dollars. But guess what – this exhibition is entirely free. Just note that you’ll need to reserve a spot in order to enter. We recommend getting to it ASAP, as weekend slots get booked up fast, and the exhibition is only running from now till 24th September 2023.
